Completed in 2015, the project redesigned the Chain Bridge Road/Old Dominion Drive intersection and constructed pedestrian and streetscape improvements, including the extension of the peninsula at Old Dominion Drive and Elm Street to create a safe pedestrian refuge on the west side of the intersection. The crosswalks will be restriped to align with a new pedestrian traffic signal.
The MRC has purchased four distinctive bus shelters, three of which have now been installed at heavily trafficked bus stops in downtown McLean. They are located at the corner of Chain Bridge Road and Westmoreland Street, on Chain Bridge Road between the Solana Village Shopping Center and Sun Trust Bank, and on Chain Bridge Road in front of the Old Fire House. The last bus shelter was installed in front of the Shell gas station on Old Dominion Drive in 2014.
MRC has purchased 10 benches, which have been installed at bus stops around the Community Business Center (CBC). This activity supports the goal of making McLean a more comfortable area for pedestrian and transit users.
